In this role you’ll be the creative visionary for the Simply Crochet brand and be the face of the magazine for the industry and the readers. Working with senior editorial staff, you’ll plan the themes for all issues of Simply Crochet magazine, and commission and source projects, features and cover gifts in the style of the magazine, ensuring they are the very best within the craft sector.

Passionate about yarn crafts, in particular crochet, you’ll combine this with your natural instinct for crafts and good design. You’ll have a good understanding of crochet trends and the top designers/bloggers on the internet, and you’ll work with crochet designers, keep up to date with the latest trends in the yarn industry and work with technical editors to use the most appropriate yarns and ensure all patterns are accurate. A strong technical understanding of crochet patterns is an advantage. Ideally you’ll have proven success for identifying the types of projects that appeal to readers and have experience of commissioning craft designs and features for publication, preferably crochet or knitting. As Production Assistant you’ll be part of a small team delivering bookazines for print overseas covering a wide variety of new subject areas. You’ll create flatplans of reuse bookazines and work closely with the Designer to organise an efficient workflow system for each bookazine. Managing multiple schedules, you’ll play a key role in organising the team ensuring each bookazine is delivered on time and to a high level of accuracy. You’ll sub-edit InDesign pages, ensure consistency of repurposed content, as well as having the opportunity to write compelling coverlines, introductions and contents pages.

You’ll have a superb grasp of written English, have strong sub-editing and writing skills and ideally have experience of working on a newsstand magazine. Working as part of a team of seven developers in our Bath office you’ll play a key role in creating high performance code; spend time pushing the boundaries of what devices can do by hacking and being innovative.

You’ll work closely with the rest of the team to ensure parity across platforms as well as conduct reviews of designs, test plans, code and documentation, of both your own work, and that of colleagues, to ensure that these meet agreed standards.
